The Department Of Fisheries And Oceans Canada, Science Branch is currently soliciting tenders for a vessel to conduct multiple scientific cruises in 2007.

Requirement: Vessel required for Scientific Video Survey equipment trials in Halifax Harbour area, for a Right Whale Survey in Roseway Basin, and to conduct scientific mooring operations in and around Lunenburg Bay.

The following are some minimum specifications that must be met by any vessel wishing to apply:

  • Vessel rated for Home Trade Voyage Class 2.
  • Greater than 50 gross registered tonnage.
  • Fibreglass, wood or steel construction at least sixty-five feet in overall length.
  • Stern mounted A-Frame with 2.5 Tonne SWL, 3.4m High, 2m Wide, 3m Lateral Range. Crane with a SWL of 2100 pounds.
  • Deck capable of mounting and supporting a 9000lb scientific winch and 3000lb hydraulic power pack.
  • Captain must possess Master Limited or greater certification.
  • Eight berths for scientific personnel in addition to crew requirements.
  • Current navigation and communication equipment on-board.
  • Be available for 26 days between September 4 and November 7, 2007.
  • Able to procure and maintain in effect, insurance at value sufficient to protect all interests (General Third Party Insurance, Workers Compensation)
