The awards were presented at SC&RA’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida at the start of April.

In the crane and rigging safety awards section, some 22 SC&RA members won a crane and rigging safety award because of their superior safety records, including: AME Inc., Fort Mill, South Carolina; AmQuip Crane Rental LLC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Atlas Industrial Contractors, Columbus, Ohio; Bigge Crane and Rigging Co., San Leandro, California; Bollmeier Crane, Madison, Illinois; Crane Rental Corporation, Orlando, Florida; Dutcher-Phipps Crane & Rigging Co.; Essex Crane Rental Corp., Buffalo Grove, Illinois; WO Grubb Crane Rental Inc.; Hampton Cranes Inc., Battendorf, Iowa; Install Inc.; Mountain Crane Service, Riverton, Utah; Mr. Crane Inc.; PSC Crane & Rigging, Dayton, Ohio; Southern Industrial Constructors Inc./Southern Crane, Raleigh, North Carolina; Tim’s Crane & Rigging Inc., Savannah, Georgia; Tri-State Crane & Rigging, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Turner Bros. A further 13 SC&RA member companies received the crane and rigging zero accidents award because they did not have a single recordable accident or injury in the past year, including: Atlas Industrial Contractors, Columbus, Ohio; Bollmeier Crane, Madison, Illinois; Dutcher-Phipps Crane & Rigging Co., Monahans, Texas; Hampton Cranes Inc., Battendorf, Iowa; Install Inc., Sanford, North Carolina; Mr. Crane Inc., Orange, California; PSC Crane & Rigging, Dayton, Ohio; Specialty Crane & Rigging, Santa Barbara/Santa Maria, California; Tim’s Crane & Rigging Inc., Savannah, Georgia; Tri-State Crane & Rigging, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Waggoner Equipment, Wood River, Illinois; George Young Company, Swedesboro, New Jersey; and George Young Installations PR, Humacao, Puerto Rico.

SC&RA also presented five member companies with a crane and rigging safety improvement award for showing an improved incidence rate compared to the previous year’s contest entry, including: AmQuip Crane Rental, LLC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Essex Crane Rental Corp., Buffalo Grove, Illinois; Mountain Crane Service, Riverton, Utah; United Crane & Rigging Co., Baltimore, Maryland; and George Young Company, Swedesboro, New Jersey.

SC&RA presented crane operator safety awards for the first time at its 2010 annual conference. This new award was presented to certified crane operators who had exhibited exemplary work achievements while accumulating 10,000 consecutive man-hours and recording zero accidents or incidents. Winners represented six different companies: Patrick Farr from JJ Curran Crane Co., Detroit, Michigan; Lance Cagle, Michael Higgins, Roger Mills, Gilbert Nunez and Johnny Viscaino from Dutcher-Phipps Crane & Rigging Co., Monahans, Texas; Steve Grubb from WO Grubb Crane Rental; Tom Leingang, Brandon Podoll, Keith Pryor and Tom Roerich from Industrial Builders Inc., Wells Fargo, North Dakota; Tyson Allen and Doug Steinfeldt from Mountain Crane Service, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Shawn Deitrick, Chris Deppe and Randall Roberts from Mr. Crane Inc., Orange, California.

In the transportation safety awards section, Bridger Crane & Rigging, Boulder, Wyoming was one of five SC&RA member companies presented with a fleet safety award, which recognises companies with the lowest accident frequency rate in different mileage categories. Bridger Crane & Rigging received the prize for having the lowest accident frequency rate between 100,000-1.5 million miles.

Bridger Crane & Rigging, All Sunshine Crane Rental, Apopka, Florida and Emmert International, Clackamas, Oregon each picked up a zero accident award for having no recordable injuries throughout 2009. Ten zero accident awards in total were presented to SC&RA members.

All Sunshine Crane & Rigging, Apopka, Florida and WO Grubb Crane Rental, Richmond, Virginia were two of eight companies to receive a fleet safety improvement award by showing a reduction in their accident frequency rate for miles travelled compared to their previous year’s accident frequency rate.
