Tadano has launched the 16 tonne capacity GR-160N Crevo160 G5 rough terrain crane to the Japanese domestic market. The crane is the second in Tadano’s G5 Series following the GR-250N Crevo250 G5 that was released in September 2021 (see).
The GR-160N Crevo160 retains the same body dimensions as the earlier GR-250N, while extending the maximum length of the boom by 50 cm to 28 metres, said Tadano. In combination with a 6.9 metre power tilt jib, this helps improve the efficiency of high lift work, the company claimed.
Environmental credentials
Like the GR-250N, the GR-160N has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, using less fuel and emitting less CO2 emissions due to its new-generation EU Stage V Cummins diesel engine.
An automatic acceleration function controls engine speed according to the amount of crane lever operation, while an automatic pump stop that halts the PTO pump when the crane is not being operated in order to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
Safety cameras
Visibility while travelling and operating has been improved via Tadano’s improved View System. A new rear left view camera, slewing table rear view camera, and slewing table rear left view camera have been added, making a total of five cameras which all come as standard.
Up to three patterns for the camera selections on the large-size display can be registered, providing support for checking safety in the surrounding area, while the human alert system, that detects and warns the driver when people are present, has also been improved for a better detection rate, said Tadano.
Crane operation
Crane operating information and various operation settings are displayed on a 12.1-inch colour touchscreen panel. The LCD panel uses materials that prevent scatter reflection and condensation and are resistant to impact. The touchscreen panel is operated in a way that feels similar to a smartphone.
The crane’s responsiveness to operator inputs has been sharpened and a ‘Feeling Operation’ added to the crane’s speed settings for particularly precise work. The sensitivity of the system can also be adjusted to best suit the operator.
Radio remote control for setup
An optional radio remote control has been fully renovated to allow safe and efficient setup and machine retraction, although it is not used for crane operation. The RC has a 2.7-inch colour screen for maximum visibility. The hand-held radio controller can be operated to extend and retract outrigger beams and jacks, stow booms (hook-in), and mount and stow jibs.
Digital data and services
Tadano said it is also focussing on the provision of digital data and digital services that include Lift API, BIM models, Hello-Net telematics web information service, and Hello-Data Link smartphone app to aid safe, high-quality, and efficient lifting work.
