SELECT PLANT Hire of the UK has bought Delta Tower Cranes from the administrative receivers of Baldwins Industrial Services. The transaction completed on 20 December 2002.
Select, part of the Laing O’Rourke Group, will merge Delta’s operations with its Select Tower Crane division, bringing together the UK’s two representatives of Terex’s tower crane product lines. Select represents Terex Comedil and Delta represents Terex Peiner.
Select has taken over Delta as a going concern, together with its 141 employees and 126 tower cranes. Under the terms of the sale agreement Select will be completing all ongoing customer hire contracts.
Select already owned more than 170 tower cranes, of which about 140 are Comedil models. Combining the two fleets means that Select now owns about 300 cranes, making it certainly the largest fleet of tower cranes for rent in the UK and possibly number three in the world, behind Arcomet of Belgium and Morrow of the USA.
Those wishing to learn more about Select should attend Crane Safety 2003 on 16 and 17 June. Select Tower Crane’s inspection and test services manager will present a paper on the management and control of ancillary equipment, and on 18 June Select will host a technical visit for all delegates to the Heathrow Airport Terminal Five construction site.
