The firm’s range of mobile and crawler cranes includes manufacturers such as Liebherr and Terex, but the 683 Heavy Duty telescopic crawler crane is the first Sennebogen the company has bought since its inception 25 years ago.
Select’s interest in the Sennebogen was initially stoked by numerous client requests for a versatile telescopic crane as part of their fleet. The crane’s lift capacity of 80t and 59.7m boom, along with its compact design, lack of additional setup equipment needed, and ability to be transported while ballasted key features for Select.
Business manager of Select Plant Hire’s crawler crane division, Nick Hooper, said: “We’ve had recurring requests for a telescopic crawler crane, and the versatility of the Sennebogen’s boom length and the transportation of the machine was a deciding factor.”
Select Plant Hire, part of the Laing O’Rourke group, has a selection of cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 8t to 160t, so for mid-range vehicles such as the Sennbogen 683HD telescopic crawler crane, purchases have to be carefully rationalised.
Explaining the reason for the absence of a Sennebogen crane from Select’s fleet before now, Hooper added: “Select wanted to keep a rationalised fleet for operation, repair and rigging/de-rigging purposes and spare parts stock.”
