The cranes comprise two 154 EC-H 10 FR.tronic units, which are on hire from Liebherr’s Turkish distributor Atilla Dural, and one 132 EC-HM 6 FR.tronic that is being rented from Atilla’s rental division, Duramak.

Sembol and Taca are using only Liebherr cranes on the project, with project manager Baris Arica saying that a further Liebherr unit will be brought onto the site by the beginning of 2009. The new unit will probably be a 130 EC-B 6, which the contractor is currently negotiating to hire from Duramak.

Arica says that the speed and ease of erection, together with the productive lift and reach capacities made the Liebherr FR.tronic cranes the choice for the job.

The 154 EC-H cranes have a maximum radius of 60 m, at which they can lift 1.4 t, and a maximum lift of 10 t. Maximum hook height is 72.1 m.

Designed to a modular concept, the cranes are fast and easy to erect and are designed for medium to large construction projects. The two units were delivered new to Atilla Dural from Liebherr in Germany especially for working on the Harbiye Kongre project.

The 132 EC-HM 6 F.R. tronic has a maximum radius of 60 m at which it can lift 1.2 t, and a maximum load of 6 t. Maximum hook height is 68 m.

The Harbiye Kongre Merkezi is still in the foundations stage, and has a projected completion date of 2011. It is being built for customer the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

It is being built alongside the Cemil Topuzlu Harbiye Amphitheatre, a renowned venue for concerts and venues. Adjacent is the Lutfi Kirdar Congress Centre and Exhibition Hall, and behind the site is the Istanbul Hilton, also a noted convention venue. Completion of the Harbiye Kongre will make the Harbiye district, which is located on the west side of the Bosphorus, into one of the prime mega-events venues in Europe.
