A computer model of the planned Straubing-Sand Sennebogen plant
The initial surface area of the site will be more than 100,000 sq m, with an option for further expansion in the industrial park for the future development of the firm. In the first construction phase, a the company will build a 13,000 sq m assembly hall, followed by office and other buildings. Sennebogen emphasised the importance of the space available at the site for testing. Currently, some of its cranes can weigh up to 220t and need 125m to extend their booms.
Sennebogen employs about 1000 people across three production plants, two of which are in Germany (Straubing and Wackersdorf) with one plant for steel constructions in Hungary. The company said that while it could have found cheaper sites, this location offered the advantages of proximity to its HQ, a ready local pool of potential workers, and good road, water and rail links, ideal for transporting its heaviest equipment.
The building work on the new factory is due to start in the spring. Production is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2008.
