The Ferrondo system is a special proposal from the Himmel & Papesch and Heberger Systembau consortium.

At Himmel & Papesch, the main focus is on the construction of reinforced concrete bridges for road and rail, track-laying, temporary bridges, timbering and overground workings. With approximately 1,000 employees, the company is one of the largest in the industry. Himmel & Papesch has been building with Sennebogen machines for many years. This is also the case with the erection of the new noise protection barrier along the high-speed Cologne – Rhine/Main train line.

By May 2008, around 600 barriers will be put up over an overall length of just less than 2 miles. The individual sections are between two and four meters high and weigh approx. 12 tons. All in all, a total area of approx. 8,600 sq m will be erected. For assembling the finished parts, Himmel und Papesch rely on the Sennebogen 683 crawler telescopic crane.

“We decided in favour of this machine, because we need reliable performance in extremely cramped conditions. Site access and working conditions on site are sometimes very restricted. Because of its compact, extremely sturdy design, the 683 is ideally suited to this job,” says site manager Lothar Latosik.

Another major advantage for everyday practical use is the crane’s ability to travel under full load, as Latosik explains: “At this building site, in particular, it frequently happened that a truck had to get past the lifting apparatus. Thanks to its crawler truck, the Sennebogen 683 was able to move out of the way under load, and get quickly back into position.” The machine’s excellent stability is achieved by the telescopic undercarriage and broad chains, which enable the ideal distribution of the ground pressure.

Complete assembly is taking place without disruption to rail traffic, behind the existing noise protection barrier. Smooth building progress is guaranteed by competent forward planning and expert on-site implementation. The high interest among visitors and the good response from the local population confirm the positive public mood towards this visually attractive noise protection solution.

With an 80-ton carrying capacity and 42-meter boom length, the Sennebogen 683 opens up a wide range of applications to customers.
