Danish manufacturer Krøll Cranes has received an order for what it claims is the second largest tower crane ever made.

The 5,000tm-rated K-5000, said to be second in size only to Krøll’s K-10000, is to be delivered by the end of the year to Daewoo for use in its shipyard at Okpo, South Korea.

Maximum load of the K-5000 is 120t at a radius of 39.1m. It will have a 70m jib with a 60t tip load and a 50m hook height.

The specification also includes rail mounting on a 12m gauge track and a 300kW hoist motor.

Daewoo has been buying Krøll cranes for almost 20 years and already has seven units of the K-1800 model and 10 units of the smaller K-320 model. Technical and economic quality were two reasons for choosing the K-5000, according to Niels Peter Sørensen, Krøll technical and sales manager.
