Key industry voices have previously voiced their concerns that there are too many trade shows around the world, with Terex one of the most vocal. Both chairman and CEO Ron DeFeo and chief marketing officer Katia Facchetti have commented on the matter with Facchetti saying she is “appalled by the time, resources and cost that goes into trade shows in this industry”.
“Both parties [Messe München and the US Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)] listened to the industry. The industry is OK with two shows; BICES in Beijing and Bauma in Shanghai. The quantity is meeting the demand of the industry.”
Messe München and AEM have also announced they are launching a new trade show in Mumbai, India in 2011, which Egetenmeir said will meet the expectations of the industry to be involved in areas of high investment.
“Investment is high in the area, especially along the Delhi-Mumbai corridor.
“Last year Japan’s Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association presented statistics showing there will be $90bn of investment in the corridor. There are high expectations to get a slice of that pie.
“We know that in India there is a certain lack of infrastructure that means there will be a lot of investment, even in times of recession. The Indian government is thinking of this as more of a mid- and long-term investment strategy.”
Egetenmeir said there is added expectation from the local community to have an internationally recognised trade show in the area, with Messe München and AEM fitting this bill.
“Two experienced trade show organisers coming to the market gives it a certain warranty,” he said. “They know that if it says Bauma ConExpo on the label, there is Bauma ConExpo in the bottle.”
