The Skyline system, from vehicle tracking, fleet management and security systems supplier Enigma Vehicle Systems Plc, reports on vehicle movements, both authorised and unauthorised; tamper attempts; ignition state; stop reports; tow-away alerts; battery disconnections; low power warnings; and other readings.

The system is made up of servers, hardware and software, and the hardware in the crane is equipped with eight imput/output ports that can be used for additional monitoring sensors.

Fairview Crane Hire uses Skyline

Skyline is also able to measure driver performance by checking vehicle speeds, vehicle utilisation, working hours, out-of-hours use, idling and more.

Fairview is using the Skyline system on its entire crane fleet, including its new 90t Liebherr LTM 1090-4.1 and 200t Liebherr LTM 1200-5.1 mobile cranes. This, Fairview said, provides greater visibility of its fleet to fleet managers for optimising the movement of its cranes. Fairview is also using a zone reporting function to record departure and arrival data, to ensure cranes are delivered to the right sites and in line with agreed schedules. It also forms part of the company’s health and safety initiatives.

“With the information provided by the Skyline system, we have an eye in the sky that tells us when and where our vehicles are operating,” said Fairview’s operations manager Mark Hornett. “Skyline’s state-of-the-art GPS and telematics capabilities provide important information for our quality control procedures, ensuring we offer, and deliver, the best possible service to our customers.

“The Skyline system has created such a favourable impression at Fairview Crane Hire that our sister company, Fairview Lifting Gear, is considering employing tracking provided by Skyline in their fleet.”

Enigma said the UK plant hire sector is a major market for its systems, and chief executive, Ian Keam-George, said: “With its combination of security and telematics capabilities, Skyline provides an excellent solution for hire companies.”
