Two Street cranes have been commissioned in aircraft hangars at the Royal Navy’s Air Station in Culdrose, UK.

One is installed within an existing aircraft hangar, the other within a new hangar development designed and built by contractor Kier Western.

Two double girder cranes, each with a 2.5t safe working load, have been installed in bays that are 31m and 34.6m wide.

Because of the wide span and consequent depth of the crane beams, hoists are located within the height of the beam to give the greatest clear area beneath. The hoists are Street ZX units.

The cranes are dual speed on both long and cross travel. Control of the cranes is via suspended pendants that are mobile across the bridges of the cranes; these allow the operators to work from positions of safety.
