CePLuS GmbH has introduced the: CeSAR slew anti-sway system for slewing cranes. The system is controlled by a 10cm long high speed camera with an integrated power PC. The camera is installed near the crane operator’s cabin. Its job is to constantly record the load movements and calculate the twist and swing speeds in order to remove all oscillations.

With the use of a double camera system, the camera can observe the load with a larger viewing area. Other algorithms are available for higher reliability in unfavourable conditions or for load travelling that is done outside the camera’s viewing area.

According to CePLuS, the system works well with both mobile harbour cranes and double-link level luffing cranes.

It adds: ‘With electronic anti-sway, these cranes can easily load and unload ships in manual and automatic mode without the crane operator worrying about load oscillations, because after every twist, swing, and lifting movement, the grip arm hangs in a motionless resting position.’
