The crane features a 42m five-section boom, with extra reach provided by a two-stage 8m/12.7m under-slung jib that stows alongside the base boom section.
It offers the option for the cab to be mounted on the right of the crane and the boom to the left, rather than the opposite, standard configuration.
This helps to optimise driver visibility — which is also further improved by the use of twin cylinders to raise and lower the boom, rather than a longer single elevating cylinder, and the cabin being mounted further forward than on most RT cranes, says Tadano.
The length of the crane has been reduced and more counterweight has been added, allowing Tadano to shorten the maximum extension width of the outriggers — providing the GR-500EXL with the highest-possible maximum capacity for jobsites in urban areas with restricted space.
