Baldwins Industrial Services deployed both of its 1,000t-capacity Liebherr mobile cranes for a tandem lift at Dawson’s Wharf on the south bank of the river Tees on 10 June.

The telescopic LTM 11000 D machines, superlift versions of the LTM 1800, were both rigged with 31.6m of main boom and 31.5m of derrick mast superlift. One crane had 170t of derrick counterweight, the other had 50t. Both had 160t of crane counterweight.

The two loads to be lifted were a 240t and a 280t water module for a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel which is being fitted out by Kværner Govan for the Chrystal Ocean project. The oil rig system, based on a converted tanker, is destined for Brazil.

The loads were picked from the quayside and placed on a vessel at a radius of 24.5m for one crane and 17m for the other.

Baldwins has also taken delivery of its first 500t Liebherr LTM 1500, with another one still on order. First lift for the new machine was erecting a Peiner tower crane for Shepherd Construction at the Natural History Museum in London, where the crane was rigged with the main boom fully extended to 84m – the longest telescopic boom of any crane on the market.
