Production of Peiner tower cranes will not now be relocated to Comedil’s factory in Fontanafredda, Italy – as originally planned – but instead will move to the Demag factory in Zweibrücken, Germany.
Parent company Terex Cranes announced earlier this year that the Peiner factory in Trier, Germany would close by December, and all tower crane production would be consolidated under Comedil.
But Terex Cranes president Fil Filipov announced on 29 July that Peiner operations were moving in with Demag instead, just 100km away from Trier. He said that the change of plan was ‘due to some technical problems with language, drawings, systems and requests from customers’.
The Demag factory will produce the three models that remain in Peiner’s range, the top slewing SK 315, SK 415 and SK 575, as well as the two tower types 212 and 213. Parts and product support will also be managed out of Zweibrücken.
The Peiner and Comedil brand names are to be dropped, however, in favour of the single Terex Towers brand.
