Previously owned by the late Ferruccio Moritsch, who also founded the now Terex-owned crane manufacturer Comedil in Fontanafredda, Italy, Recom specialises in the design and manufacture of luffing jib tower cranes.
With its core competencies in tower crane research and development Recom began exclusively supplying Terex Tower Cranes in 2008, before Terex bought its initial a 33% stake in the company two years later.
This deal was on the understanding that Recom would allow Terex to buy the remaining shares at a later date.
With the deal completed at the beginning of this month, Terex Cranes will move Recom’s production facilities from Belluno, Italy to Fontanafredda, to come under the Comedil umbrella, overseen by managing director of Terex Tower Crane, Martina Moritsch.
To support this move Terex has already announced the move of self-erecting tower crane production to Terex’s Montceau-Les Mines facility in France, making space for Recom luffing jib tower crane production facilities.
While some Recom staff will remain in the firm’s Belluna office, many of them are expected to move to Fontanafredda.
Terex says the deal forms part of a more aggressive strategy for its tower crane division, and that the design specialisms of Recom will not only boost prospects for its luffing jib tower crane line, but also for flat-top, self-erecting and a number of other crane product lines.
