TEREX CRANES president Fil Filipov has struck a deal with IHI of Japan to sell IHI crawler cranes in Europe badged as Demag.
In return, IHI is given full rights to sell and service Demag cranes in Japan.
Terex will introduce the HC 60, HC 80 and HC 110 models that it sells in North America. These cranes are built by IHI to Terex’s specification. The names reflect their US ratings (60 US ton etc) but the names are not expected to be changed for the European market. Terex hopes to show an HC 60 or an HC 80 at the Intermat show in Paris in May.
A new 180t (200 US ton) model is also planned for before the end of the year.
The smallest crawler crane currently in Demag’s range is the 300t class CC 1800, although this is likely to be reclassified at 350t within the next few months, once the previously announced CC 1500, a lighter 300 tonner, reaches the market. Demag engineers were travelling to Japan, Filipov said, to establish what changes, if any, were either necessary or beneficial for the European market.
Terex already sells the IHI crawler crane series in the Americas with Terex American badges.
IHI has been represented in Europe in recent years by UK rental company AGD. AGD says that it will continue to be IHI’s exclusive dealer for the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
