CONATECO’s first STS crane from the order has been delivered with an outreach of 52m, back reach of 18m, span of 29m and a lifting capacity above the quay of 38m.

The crane uses a monobox boom and fixed trolley girder, with a semi-rope trolley and double auxiliary trolleys to limit hoisting rope sag. The trolley is fed on a cable chain that requires lower maintenance than the traditional festoon system, Terex said. The STS crane operates on electricity, and energy use is optimised by a fully regenerative system based on state-of-the-art technology using IGBT inverters.

The first STS crane was designed and constructed by Terex Port Equipment at its Monfalcone plant near Trieste, North Italy and delivered fully assembled to Naples by barge

Terex has already delivered two STS cranes to the Port of Naples for the Port Authority of Naples. The STS cranes are designed to operate on new-generation post-panamax vessels serving transoceanic routes.

“In spite of the current challenging economic situation, the volumes we handle have increased by 2%,” said Pasquale Legora De Feo, CEO of CONATECO. “Second, we are delighted to see our partnership with a key player like Terex grow stronger on a daily basis.

“With the arrival of a sister crane in April, and the construction of a new terminal on the Levante quay in Naples, where we intend to invest €150m in new equipment, this is just the beginning of the long and solid partnership that we wish to continue to develop with Terex.”
