The main lifts consisted of three 80.0 metre long trusses weighing 67 tonnes each. These enormous trusses were prebuilt on the ground next to each other, adjacent to the back of the Centre Court stand. The two Liebherr LTM 1500s were rigged with 36.9 metre main booms at an angle of 83 degrees, to enable them to tandem lift the individual trusses into their final positions on the Centre Court roof. The dimensions of these lifts required the cranes to carry 135 tonnes of counterweight, with 35 metre luffing fly jibs. These trusses will eventually form part of Wimbledon’s new retractable roof for the Centre Court Stand, something that has become ever more essential for British outdoor summer sports.
The cranes were on site for five days.
