Initial reports say that the accident happened as the crane tried to lower a 1.5t load of steel beams onto the bridge. The load struck a wall or columns close to the bridge, bringing it down onto workers below.
The crane was working on a bridge on Al Suffouh Road, close to Dubai Marina. The contractor on the site was Wade Adams Contracting Company. Local reports say that the company has offered bereaved families compensation equal to ten years’ salary.
