The Honk Kong Housing Authority development features two 120m-tall towers situated on a hillside. Each tower has 39 floors with 26 one or two bedroom apartments on each floor, and a 9m-high podium to the first floor slab. They each feature an underground car park and noise barriers.
Main contractor Shui On Construction is using three Liebherr 200 EC-H 10 tower cranes from its own fleet, and a Liebherr 280 EC-H 16 rented from Shriro Machinery, to build the towers. The 200 EC-H 10 models feature hook heights between 32-44m, and jib lengths of 30-35m. This provides a maximum lifting capacity of 10t.
The 280 EC-H 16 has a 16t maximum lifting capacity, and has been erected with an initial hook height of 44m. During construction, it will be climbed externally. In its final position, three ties spaced 25m apart will be used to attach it to the side of the tower.
The four tower cranes are being used to lift and position 8t precast panels and concrete pours used in the construction of the towers. Liebherr said room on the 10,000 sq m site is limited and there is little storage space, with the tower cranes working quickly to unload and lift the panels when they arrive on site.
Construction of the towers will be completed in 2011.
