The tower crane whose jib fell off the crane, and another that was not involved, were dismantled after the incident by the rental firm who supplied them, Falcon Crane Hire, and have not been replaced since the accident.

UK tower crane supplier Lancsville is installing and a Liebherr 224 HCL and a Wolff 160B for operation by sister firm Henry Tower Cranes.

A Barratt spokesman said:

“We will not be able to resume full construction work on site until the two new cranes are delivered and erected, which should happen between 15th and 26th January 2007.

“We have selected replacement cranes of a different type to the previous tower cranes. They will be luffing jib cranes which will keep their reach more closely within the confines of the site.”

“When they have been delivered and erected we will instruct an independent inspector to check and certify their operation. Copies of the documentation will be sent to the HSE and the Action Group, and also posted on the site notice boards.
