Exports of US-made construction machinery continue to rise, up 5% in the first quarter of 1999 on the previous quarter to more than $1.61bn, according to figures from the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association. But imports exceeded exports by $567m, creating a trade deficit. In 1998 the USA had a $183m trade surplus for construction machinery.
