The transformer needed to be moved from a power plant to a nearby substation. Moving it by rail avoided traffic hazards and the need for permits on local roads.
The crane was configured with 132.5 US tons of counterweight and rigged with a 14-part line and four 60-TPXC 9000 endless slings. Capacity was 187 US tons at a radius of 25ft (7m).
After a safety meeting to address the lift, the power lines that hemmed in the site, and other issues, work began about 8am. After the crane moved the transformer on to the trailer, a prime mover pulled it the remaining quarter-mile (400m) to the substation. Work finished by 1pm.
