The three German firms have signed a memorandum of understanding, which outlines their commitment to pursue negotiations relating to this activity and establishing a joint venture.
Deutz said the main non-road vehicle markets for diesel engines are agricultural and construction machinery, such as cranes, and these will be affected by the introduction of Stage III B and IV regulations in Europe, Tier 4i and Tier 4 in North American and similar regulations in Japan.
To this end, Deutz, Bosch and Eberspächer are to look at developing exhaust gas treatment systems. The planned joint venture would supply complete diesel exhaust systems to all engine and machinery manufacturers worldwide. The system would be based on standardised modules with customised tubing.
Deutz said each business would contribute its own specialty to the development of this technology, with Bosch contributing electronic control unit experience and its SCR metering system, Eberspächer adding its knowledge of exhaust gas after-treatment and Deutz providing experience of reducing diesel engine emissions.
