knuckle boom crane manufacturers are out in force this month at the UK’s Commercial Vehicle show in Birmingham, 18-20 March.
Among cranes on show are those from Atlas-Terex, Cormach, F.lli Ferrari, Fassi, Hiab, Palfinger and PM.
F.lli Ferrari is exhibiting various cranes suitable for trucks small and large, including short boom SC versions for use with heavy and bulky weights, and for maximising use of deck space on the vehicle body. Ferrari says that all its cranes can now be fitted with an interlock system that prevents the operator from using the crane without stabilisers properly deployed, and stabilisers cannot be retracted until crane is safely stowed. Ferrari is also promoting its new Radio Load Control system (RLC), developed in conjunction with PM, which calls it the Load Monitor Unit (LMU). A load cell monitors the load on the hook and transmits data to a readout panel on the crane controls.
Palfinger and its UK distributor TH White are showing eight cranes ranging from a PC 3300 to a PK 52002, while a huge PK 90002, the largest demountable unit in the UK mounted on a four-axle extendible semi low loader, will be shown on the stand of Broshuis Trailers.
One stand where no cranes will be shown is HMF’s. The Danish manufacturer is using the show to promote operator training instead of hardware.
