The UK major contractors' group (MCG) has begun to bar workers who do not have a training and competency card from the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) or the equivalent since 1 January.
Mobile and tower crane operators, as well as riggers, signallers and crane site managers are all required to carry the cards.
More than 70,000 CSCS cards have been issued since August in the run-up to the deadline, according to administering organisation ConstructionSkills.
