National Construction College crane operators

To meet the growing demands of the industry, the Pedestrian Operated Tower Crane course has been introduced to offer those delegates already working in the plant sector with refresher training, and for operatives with no prior operating experience the opportunity to undertake full foundation training.

The Crane Supervisor course has been designed to provide formal training and qualifications for personnel who are responsible for supervising lifting operations on behalf of their appointed person, who plan the crane lifts.

Both courses are fully operational as categories within the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS), which is the largest and most recognised national card scheme for the plant industry.  The card is one of the most widely recognised ways of demonstrating professional competence and health and safety awareness – both critical for operating plant.

Plant manager at NCC, Andy Newell, said: “We always strive to provide training to meet the demands of the construction industry. As self erecting tower cranes have become more popular within the industry, the need to have the right training in place to operate them has increased.  These two new crane courses will complement and operate in addition to our already extensive range of plant training at NCC East.

“As with all other plant training at the college, the courses are CPCS recognised. This helps to ensure that people working in the industry are provided with the right skills and qualifications to work safely and successfully within the plant sector, receiving or adding to existing qualifications with the aim of providing the industry with a fully qualified workforce.”

NCC is the largest provider of construction training in the UK and Europe, offering both young apprentices and adult students a wide range of specialist courses.  The college’s East campus is one of five sites around the UK, which, along with over 60 other locations, provide training for over 35,000 people per year.
