Prince Edward came to view the facilities at the College and talk to students who are following a range of vocational training courses in the land-based sector. He was taken to the Crane and Plant Maintenance Academy, a specialist training centre delivering advanced apprenticeships in plant maintenance, concentrating on crane technology and repair. The Academy was developed to give more specific vocational training in the plant and crane maintenance industry and concentrates on mobile and crawler cranes.

John Holden, a Lecturer in Plant Maintenance at Myerscough College, who is the students’ course tutor said:

“Prince Edward took time to talk to our students and showed a genuine interest in their work and the construction plant maintenance industry. Our students enjoyed his visit and appreciated his interest in their career subject.”

Myerscough College Chief Executive and Principal Ann Turner said of the visit:

“It was an honour to host His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex for the afternoon and be selected for a visit from the many places across Lancashire. We were pleased to be able to show him a small sample of what we have to offer at Myerscough College. Prince Edward seemed relaxed and he was very interested in our facilities and was impressed with different levels of courses that you can study at Myerscough.”
