The US Army has published a questionnaire for market information to procure a Family of All Terrain Cranes (FOATC) to replace the cranes already in the Army’s inventory. The purpose of this questionnaire is to aid in determining the suitability of commercially available equipment (with modification if necessary) that will satisfy the US Army’s requirements for diesel engine driven all terrain cranes.

The Horizontal Company will receive both types of FOATC for use in typical missions such as the maintenance of roads; performing concrete placement, pile driving and extraction; supporting horizontal construction for structural engineers; maintaining airfields and heliports, logistics support and medical facilities, and protective shelters. Two models are required:

FOATC:

Wheel driven all terrain vehicle

Self deployable

Minimum on-road speed: 40 mph

Minimum off-road speed: 15 mph

Transportable by C-17 and C-5 aircraft

Transportable by rail and marine vessel

Must be Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) item

TYPE I:

Minimum lifting capacity: 50,000 lbs at a 12ft radius through 360° with outriggers fully extended.

Minimum boom extension: 80 ft

TYPE II:

Minimum lifting capacity: 100,000 lbs at a 12ft radius through 360° with outriggers fully extended.

Minimum boom extension: 100 ft

Cranes will be required to operate on JP-8 fuel without degradation of the specified performance requirements, such as drawbar and production rates.
