Italian manufacturer Valla has begun testing one of the biggest ever pick and carry industrial cranes ever built.
The 90t capacity crane has a four-stage telescoping boom that can lift a maximum of 10t about 8m ahead of its front wheel. At full boom extension and a maximum boom angle of 60°, the crane can lift 20t to about 12m.
Like other mobile industrial cranes, such as the Rigger Lift, the rear wheel axle extends backward to increase its lifting capacity. But unlike most other machines of its type, the front wheel axle also extends forwards 750mm to further increase its base and therefore its lifting capacity. With both axles in (retracted), the crane can lift a maximum of 80t on a 4.5m wheelbase. Its total extended length is slightly less than 8m.
The crane runs off a 48kW electric motor powered by a 96v battery, so it can work indoors without the emissions associated with a diesel engine. The 2.5m-wide crane rolls on cushion tyres in front and solid tyres at the rear. It also features hydrostatic steering.
Although Valla has not yet confirmed when it will begun production of the 900E, the prototype was being tested last month.
