The Liebherr 78 EC tower crane was damaged in a fire that destroyed the Chrysalis Apartments development in Albion Gardens, Edinburgh. The crane was erected in an elevator shaft running through the seven-storey building. Liebherr told Cranes Today that the fire had damaged the lower sections of the tower crane’s mast.
Lieberr is working with Kier Plant, the owners of the tower crane, to dismantle the crane. Kier Plant said that the engineers are currently working to develop a lift plan to ensure that the crane can be dismantled safely. The engineers plan to use mobile cranes from Ainscough crane hire to dismantle the tower. As the mast has been damaged, two mobiles will support the crane while it is disassembled.
The disassembly process is expected to start on Wednesday morning.
Video of the fire that damaged the crane is available on Cranes Today’s Video News page.
