Song Da Corporation (SDC) a contractor owned by the Vietnamese government, has bought two massive MD 2200 tower cranes from Potain.

The cranes, rated at 2200tm and capable of lifting 22.8t at the end of an 80m jib, will be used on the construction of the Sesan Number 3 dam in Sesan, Vietnam. The same type of cranes are also still in action in China, supporting a conveyor belt system on the Three Gorges dam project.

The Sesan cranes are scheduled to be delivered in August and September and to be erected and working by December. SDC will use them with a height under hook of 75.6m for pouring concrete and for lifting formwork, steel reinforcement and other equipment. maximum lift capacity of these cranes is 64t.

One of the Sesan cranes will be immediately fitted, like the Three Gorges Crane, with a Nippon Topbelt concrete conveyor system. The conveyor is suspended form the jib and enables concrete to be pumped to the jib’s maximum radius. The other crane at Sesan will be configured to accommodate the system later in the construction. An estimated 700,000m3 of concrete will be placed during the three-year construction period.
