Weldex has bought the crawler crane division of Initial GWS for £5m ($7.5m). The addition of GWS’s 66 crawlers brings the size of the Scottish based rental company’s crawler fleet to exactly 200 cranes.
Greg Shaw, formerly general manager of GWS’s crawler division, now runs Weldex’s England and Wales operation. Weldex chairman Dougie McGilvray said that no redundancies were anticipated but some machines might have to go. “We have still to evaluate the fleet regarding machines that will be kept or replaced.”
Rentokil Initial, former parent of GWS, has been disposing of non-core operations. GWS has been up for sale all year. Aerial work platform hire company PTP was sold to Loxam of France in June.
