weldex has bought the crawler crane division of Initial GWS, taking its fleet to exactly 200 cranes.
Rentokil Initial, former parent of GWS, has been disposing of non-core operations. GWS has been up for sale all year. Aerial work platform hire company PTP was sold to Loxam of France in June.
There are 66 machines in GWS’s crawler fleet and 82 employees. All transferred to Weldex on 14 August. Weldex already had 134 machines, making it one of the largest crawler fleets in the world.
Greg Shaw, formerly general manager of GWS’s crawler division, now runs Weldex’s England and Wales operation. Weldex chairman Dougie McGilvray said that no redundancies were anticipated but some machines might have to go. “We have still to evaluate the fleet regarding machines that will be kept or replaced.”
