Weldex, the UK’s largest operator of crawler cranes for hire, has taken over the crawler crane division of Baldwins Industrial Services.
Fourteen hydraulic crawler cranes have now been added to Weldex’s fleet, including seven 200t Kobelco 7200s. The only Baldwins crawler not included is the largest, an 800t capacity LR 1800, which Liebherr sold to Sarens.
Weldex bought most of the cranes from Ainscough Crane Hire, which bought the entire mobile crane rental business of Baldwins but as it operates only wheeled mobiles it did not want to keep the crawlers. Some of the cranes acquired by Weldex were bought from the finance companies that retained ownership after the collapse of Baldwins.
