What is claimed to be “the world’s most efficient and powerful wind turbine” was erected in the UK last month with the aid of a TC 3300 lattice boom truck crane.

The 650t-rated crane was supplied by Taylor Crane Company, which was created when Roger Taylor acquired the heavy crane and transport division of the now-defunct Peterhead Crane Company last year. Taylor also took over the Peterhead and Aberdeen depots and has since opened a third depot in Gateshead.

The TC 3300 was manufactured by Mannesmann Dematic and shipped to Peterhead Crane in April 1997. At that time it was the first new lattice boom mobile crane in the UK for 12 years, though since then both Peterhead/Taylor and Ainscough group have bought an LGD 1550, the lattice boom versions of Liebherr’s biggest mobile, the LTM 1800.

For this lift, it was configured with 42m of main boom and 42m of luffing fly jib.

The Enercon E-66 turbine, which includes a 66m-high public viewing platform, is at the Ecotech Centre in Swaffham, Norfolk. Client for the project was wind energy specialist Next Generation.
