Local reports suggest that 43-year-old Dennis Umanzor may have been killed when two parts of the crane collided, 200ft (60m) up in the air. Pictures from the accident appear to show Umanzor being lifted away from the jib of a tower crane, at a point where two jib sections meet. However, no clear accounts of the accident are currently available.
This is the third fatal accident to happen during rigging operations on tower cranes in the USA this year. In New York, seven people were killed on March 15, when a tower crane collapsed during climbing. In Miami, less than two weeks later, two more people were killed when a mast section was dropped during another climbing operation.
