The former consultant worked at KPMG and the Hesta Group (Schiesser AG and Zellweger Luwa AG). He remains president and CEO of his company Behr Bircher Cellpack. Until 2007 he was President of the Saurer Group and in the Administrative Board of the Hilti company.
He has represented Switzerland at international accounting boards, including the United Nations as well as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
