Chinese crane manufacturer Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co Ltd (ZPMC) has won a contract to supply 57 cranes to Yantian International Container Terminals in Shenzhen, China. Electrical equipment for all the cranes will be supplied by ABB.

ABB is delivering complete electrical systems containing control system, automation, drives, motors and distribution equipment for 12 ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes and 45 rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for the latest expansion of the port. The terminal, owned by Hutchison Port Holdings, is just north of the Hong Kong border.

The cranes will be equipped with the ABB’s ACC600 AC frequency drives, the latest generation of ABB crane drives featuring direct torque control DTC. ABB has been using AC frequency drives on all motions on container cranes since 1987.

ABB said that this contract win consolidated its position as the leader in the Chinese container crane market. It has supplied more than 200 harbour cranes in China.
