Boom Logistics has unveiled what it said is Australia’s first 750t Liebherr crawler crane.

Brenden Mitchell, Boom Logistics’ CEO, said the Liebherr LR1750 is the first of its kind in the country, and has been purchased in response to demand for higher capacity crawlers used in wind farm construction, shutdowns, liquefied natural gas projects and heavy industrial applications. It is able to perform single lifts to a height of 118m and features 2m-wide tracks that reduce ground-bearing pressure by up to 38%.

The first project is for Laing O’Rourke at Cooranbong in New South Wales. It will then be moved to Port Waratah Coal Services’ 3XP expansion project at Kooragang Island, New South Wales, for Sandvik Mining and Construction Australia.

“This is the only crane of its type in Australia and meets the immediate and long-term needs of wind farm construction and other major industrial project work,” said Mitchell. “A crane of this size and versatility in the Australian market will generally enable major projects to be completed with greater efficiency than previously possible. Our team is very proud and enthusiastic about this offering.

“The 750t crawler crane has unique capabilities and is already in high demand,” he added. “It is fully booked for projects through to October 2010, and has received very positive feedback from both existing and potential customers for future work.”
