Cavotec Micro-control has developed two new remote control terminals, the MC-2-3 and MC-2-5. Initial deliveries are scheduled for March 2007. Typical applications for these new remote controls are overhead cranes and automotive cranes, alongside other construction plant.

Both systems have easily configurable standard settings based upon common applications. Security is ensured with PIN code options and access codes. The MC-2-5 will also be available in a special EX (explosive environment) version.

The terminals are equipped with a display showing key operational information such as antenna signal strength, battery level and feedback information from the equipment being operated. Information on the screen could include a percentage of load, torque, RPM, or speed, among other options.

The MC-2-3 has six two-step buttons, four single step buttons and emergency stop button. The MC-2-5 will have an additional four two-step buttons. The functions of each button can be individually selected.

The units are powered with 2 standard AA batteries, providing great flexibility as commonly available batteries can be used. To make operation even simpler, both rechargeable and non- rechargeable batteries are equally accepted as a power source. The units will be delivered complete with rechargeable batteries and charger. Using rechargeable NiMH batteries, the radio remote controls can be safely operated for 40 consecutive hours between charges or battery changes.

Both units can be set in an automatic mode to select one of 58 radio channels. The unit will then select the radio channel where signal quality and reception conditions are best. Alternatively, the radio channel can be selected and pre-set by the operator. Together with the use of a unique system ID, this means that the terminals continue to work under most radio signal conditions and in areas where there are already other radio systems in operation.

The base unit of the system, the MC-IRX-LITE, has a set of selectable programs for easy set-up and configuration. These include interlocking between motions and separate second step relays for the two-step buttons. A log of the last ten operating sessions can give indications about usage and radio signal quality. Standard configuration of the base unit is 16 digital outputs including four change over relays and one 0-10 V input for the feedback signal.

Both the MC-2-3 and MC-2-5 conform to all applicable international standards and regulations. The emergency stop button and circuits fully comply with widely-accepted international standards. The units operate
from -24°C (-75°F)to 70°C (158°F) and have a protection rating of IP66.
