Crane manufacturer Stothert & Pitt, part of the Rolls Royce group, has selected Leroy Somer of Hayes, UK, as its new supplier of motors for its 40t dockside cranes.

These multi-purpose cranes accounting for 30% of Stothert & Pitt’s turnover, and as they handle general cargo, heavy lifts, bulk material and containers on a contract basis, reliability and service are key concerns, Leroy Somer said.

Designed specifically for crane use, AC slip-ring motors (32kW for slewing and 42kW for luffing), were chosen from the FLSLB range. The four-pole, 250 frame-size units provide high starting torque and need only a relatively small drive.
