Furukawa develops business overseas

Japanese crane manufacturer Furukawa is planning to increase production and export of truck-mounted cranes to $84m by 2008, according to the Nikkei report.

Truck-mounted cranes will be exported to sales agents in Europe starting in 2005, according to the report.

The company is planning to install machining and welding equipment at its Chinese facility where it expects to be making 3,000 units a year by 2008, mostly for the domestic market, according to the report.

Crane assembly is also due to start at a parts plant in Thailand. Those cranes will be exported to other parts of Southeast Asia, according to the report.

A spokesperson at the company could not be reached for comment.
