LIEBHERR-WERK Nenzing, Austrian manufacturer of mobile harbour cranes, offshore cranes, ship cranes and crawler cranes for both lifting and foundation applications, and the European Special Transport Association (ESTA) have both put their weight behind the European debut of the World Class Crane Management Seminar.

The event is being held 27-29 May 2002 in the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, Netherlands.

Liebherr has agreed to provide sponsorship for the event to help establish it as the lifting conference of the year. Liebherr technical manager Walter Länge has also joined the distinguished panel of speakers already lined up to speak at the three-day event.

ESTA is the trade association of the major European crane rental and trucking companies. ESTA's new president Christian-Jacques Vernazza, who is also president of French company Mediaco, plans to grow ESTA into the European equivalent of the US Specialised Carriers & Rigging Association which attracts hundreds of members to its conferences and workshops. Like the SC&RA, ESTA is now encouraging manufacturers to join as associate members.

Also added to the list of speakers announced in last month's issue is Ivar Horst, managing director of the Swedish company Piab Force Measurement, who will address the issue of 'why loads fall'.

The seminar will be opened by Rolf Lovgren who is chairman of the ISO committee TC96-SC5 (use, operation and maintenance of cranes). Lovgren will also deliver a paper demonsrating the benefits of International Standards.

The programme includes a visit to one of the biggest hire companies in the Netherlands, Royal Dutch Saan, whose fleet includes several mobile tower cranes.

The World Class Crane Management Seminar is supported by Crane Partner International and the magazines Cranes Today and Hoist. It is organised by Wilmington Publishing.
