Liebherr has announced its group turnover increased to €3.65bn for the first six months of 2010.

Speaking at the Bauma China exhibition in Shanghai, a member of Liebherr’s board of directors, Winfried Boehm, revealed the 11.8% year on year increase.

The group generated a turnover of €2.22bn for the first half of 2010 through its construction machinery business, a 6.6% increase on the same period last year.

This was partially offset by a poor performance within the firm’s other construction machinery product areas, including mobile and construction cranes, which both recorded a fall in turnover.

Boehm attributes the general upturn in construction machinery sales to the performance of Liebherr’s earthmoving and mining division, which improved its turnover by 28.6% to €1.08bn.

Liebherr managing director of Liebherr-Werk Ehingen in Germany, Christoph Kleiner, also announced the sale of a LTR 11200 telecrawler to China Power, underlining the importance of the Chinese market for Liebherr cranes.

Other Liebherr products outside its construction machinery business helped boost group turnover by netting the company €1.44bn, a 20.9% increase on the first six months of 2009.

Managing director of Liebherr Machinery Service Co. (Shanghai) Stefan Gilch predicted a further increase in turnover for the remainder of 2010, pointing to the firm’s investment in products targeted specifically at the Chinese market.
