Terex-Demag plans to show two new all terrain cranes at the Bauma construction machinery show in Munich, Germany next March.

On show will be a slimmed-down version of the AC 120, the AC 120-1. Like the predecessor model, it will have a 60m boom but instead of having one hydraulic cylinder-per-boom section it will feature Demag's Unimec boom system, which uses a single hydraulic ram and a system of pins to extend every section. Boom steel has also been upgraded. The result is a lighter boom, which will result in a greater lifting capacity, though by how much has yet to be disclosed.

It also uses the new IC-1 control system and a data bus communication system.

Also slated for a Bauma launch is a brand new AC 250-1. It can lift a maximum of 250t over the rear with a special attachment, 200t through 360 degrees with special attachment and up to 155t through 360 degrees without special attachments (with 14.5m boom at 3m radius).

In comparison, the Liebherr LTM 1250/1 lifts 176t through 360 degrees with 15.5m boom at 3m radius. Despite its lower headline capacity, the Grove GMK 6220L - with 64t of counterweight - can lift 175t through 360 degrees with 15.5m boom at 3m. Terex-Demag's new AC 250-1 takes 96.9t of counterweight.

The new Demag outreaches its competitors, however. Like both the Liebherr and Grove models, the AC 250-1 will feature an add-on jib with variable offset angle, up to 40°. The combination of boom plus jib will total 114m - the longest of the three, by four metres. The Grove boom plus lattice extension reaches 110m. The Liebherr boom plus adapter plus jib extends to 108.5m.

Carrier engine on the AC 250-1 is the same as on the AC 200-1, a DaimlerChrysler diesel OM 502 LA, and steering/drive is 12x8x10.
