Two Liebherr LTM 1220-5.2 all terrain cranes from Darcy Pacheco’s fleet were deployed for the erection of the largest statue of Christ in Brazil.

The “Christ the Protector” statue is situated in Encantado, a town with a population of 22,000 located 145km North West of the regional capital of Porto Alegre. At a height of 43m, it will be 5m higher than the famous “Christ the Redeemer” statue in Rio de Janeiro. The span of the arms is 36m, 8m longer than the one of the 90-year-old monument in Rio de Janeiro. An elevator will transport visitors inside the figure to a viewing platform at chest height, from where they will enjoy the view of a valley.

Darcy Pacheco based in Nova Santa Rita, 20km away from the capital of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, supplied two 220t Liebherr LTM 1220-5.2 for this project. The 60m telescopic booms provided enough hoisting height to carry out the lifts.  The five-axle crane can achieve hoisting heights of up to 101m and radii up to 88m using lattice extensions.

“The LTM 1220-5.2 and its predecessor, the LTM 1220-5.1, have enjoyed great popularity over the years, particularly in Brazil. Overall, Liebherr has delivered around 150 of these versatile cranes to the largest country in South America. Darcy Pacheco have many units of this model,” said Liebherr.
