Simulation training will help Freeport Container Port in the Bahamas boost its operations and grow as an international container transhipment hub.

GlobalSim has installed a MasterLift 4000 training simulator at the port, which will be used to give operators experience in dealing with emergency situations, such as hydraulic failures, snapped mooring lines and slipping clutches or brakes, as well as giving operators additional hours at the controls through simulated training.

MasterLift 4000 is a reconfigurable immersive training simulator that includes a realistic cab learning environment and a three degree-of-freedom motion system. The Freeport training simulator is equipped with ship-to-shore gantry crane and mobile harbour crane simulations.

Freeport has said the training of new and existing crane operators is an important part of growing business through the port. It is located on a number of major trade routes and in proximity to many main container destinations.

“The benefit of having the MasterLift 4000 simulator is the ability to train individuals step-by-step with increased complexity,” said Oneil Wildgoose, Freeport training instructor.

“The simulator will become a cornerstone tool used in the annual and bi-annual competence testing for renewal of operator licenses.”
